Q: What is the duration of the ELP Fellowship?
A: There are two traineeship periods per year:
25 February to end July;
25 September to end February (of the following year).
Q: What are the important application and other dates and deadlines?
A: For February and September periods, respectively, the important dates are the following:
Registration opens: 3 December; 3 July
Registration closes: 8 February; 8 September
Interviews (if necessary): 11-12 February; 11-12 September
Notifications sent by: 15 February; 15 September
Concluding conference: early July; early February
Q: Can I arrive before the traineeship begins?
A: Yes. Your accommodation (room in the ELP house) will be ready for use a couple of days before the ELP traineeship period begins. You will be encouraged to arrive early.
Q: Can non-EU citizens apply for the programme?
A: Yes. EU, EEA and Swiss nationality or residency applicants are eligible for the programme.
Q: Can I apply if I already work or will work in the E.U.-related institutions?
A: Yes. We encourage all young professionals occupying any Brussels-based E.U.-related jobs to apply (e.g., interns, trainees, assistants, junior professionals, etc.). However, the accommodation is offered as a part of the community segment of the programme and is available only for the duration of the programme.
Q: Is there an age limit for applying?
A: No. There is no limit of age to participate in the ELP.
Q: Will I need to speak French?
A: No. However, we strongly advise you have at least some basic knowledge of French or Flemish.
Q: Will the ELP provide me with a medical insurance?
A: No. You must have your own insurance.
Q: Can I apply again if my application is not selected?
A: Yes. You can apply as often as you want.
Q: Can I withdraw my application?
A: Yes. You may withdraw your application by informing the ELP applications team (at info@jesc-elp.eu) at any stage of the application process. In such a case, you will be excluded from further stages of the process. You may re-apply for a subsequent training period with a new application and supporting documentation.
Q: What is the financial cost of the ELP traineeship?
A: The total costs of the programme amounts to an average of roughly 13.500€ per fellow.
Q: How much will I have to pay?
A: The ELP project will be able to secure approximately 80% of the funding through the JESC partners and donors. You will have to pay up to maximum 500€ per month, totalling about 2.700€ per traineeship.
Q: What kind of contracts will I have to sign?
A: Once admitted to the ELP, you will be signing two contracts with JESC, both containing strong and inseparable legal links to each other:
The first contract is the “ELP Fellowship Agreement”, related the ELP project a whole.
The second is the “ELP Lodging Agreement” concerning specifically the lodging rights, duties and obligations.
In addition, you will be signing one or more traineeship contracts with the organisations in which you will be doing the socio-political segment of the ELP (such as the paid traineeships in the European Parliament, the European Commission, NATO, Embassies, Lobbying firms, JESC, etc.).
You will be signing such contracts independently of the ELP fellowship.
These latter contracts are necessary for signing the “ELP Fellowship Agreement” and the “ELP Lodging Agreement.”
Q. Will there be any other binding documents?
A: Yes. Upon the receiving an acceptance notification from the ELP Selection Committee, and before signing the contracts, you will be given the “ELP Handbook” that contains details pertaining to the rights and duties as well as the accreditation related to the “Learning” segment of the ELP project (see “a programme” webpage). As you sign the “ELP Fellowship Agreement” you agree to the procedures and rules provided in the ELP Handbook.
Q. Will I be earning credits (ECTS) in the Learning segment of the ELP?
A: Yes and no. As the ELP is an independent programme that includes a higher education “Learning” segment, your university might recognise up to 10 ECTS. The 10 ECTS are based on your 300 hours of academic work: 90 hours will be spent in classroom with recognised professors and guests on three learning modules, 120 hours for preparation/assignments, and 90 hours for the final paper and conference (see “a programme”).
